Ashley stepped into the breach following Silvinho's hastened (passport-problematic) departure from Highbury and hasn't looked back, making the left-back spot his own for club and country.
Sadly his relationship with his "home" club began to sour when Cole met Chelsea representatives in 2005. The fans never quite took to him in the same manner again. He left the club at the end of the summer transfer window 2006 in a part-exchange deal with Chelsea's William Gallas.
