Birmingham preview, Delayed PotM Feb
G4L_harry (25 March 2010)
Heres a preview of the match on saturday against some team called birmingham, just what is it about them? Our regular match reviewer Urakanine does his usual analysis...............................
Urakanine's Preview...........
Birmingham, Blues, Brum, Taylor, McFadden, Bowyer, not much to like about this bunch.
I don't think there is a single gooner out there who won't be dying for revenge. The last time we went to St. Andrews', it was the end of our title challenge. The end of Eduardo's superb form. The end of William Gallas.
Might as well have been the end for Arsenal.
2 years on, here we are again, challenging for the title. Eduardo is back. Gallas has recovered, and we are up for the challenge. We do know, that with big matches for United and Chelsea up, this match will be another crucial away match. Just another cup final..
Team news: The fitness of Tomas Rosicky will be questioned. After yet again not appearing against West Ham, you have to wonder how he's doing. van Persie will be out for another month, while the usual few Djourou, Gibbs and Vela are far away. Vermaelen's red card wasn't taken back and Wengers set to play Campbell and Song in the centre.
Predicted Line up:
Arshavin-Bendtner-Eboue
Fabregas-Nasri
Denilson or Diaby
Clichy-Song-Campbell-Sagna
Almunia
Key men to watch:
Andrey Arshavin for Arsenal
It's these sort of matches that Arshavin needs to perform. He has been rather poor of late (except Porto), so perhaps a goal is in order..?
Roger Johnson for Birmingham
He has been outstanding this season, and will need to be on his toes here.
Personal battles:
Fabregas vs. Ferguson
Cesc has scored 17 goals this season, and he will want to extend it here, especially after what happened 2 seasons ago. However Ferguson is no pushover. Fabregas needs to be at his best to control the midfield.
Bowyer vs Denilson
Hard as it is to swallow, Denilson will be one-third the spine of the Arsenal team (Bendtner and Campbell being the other two). He will need to show some sort of strength to defy Lee Bowyer, a rugged player by nature.
Bendtner vs. Dann
Bendtner has already proven to be an absolutely vital piece of the Arsenal puzzle. His height has contributed a fair bit, and winning balls in the air against Dann will be the rather important issue.
Jerome vs. Campbell
Two big men face off in the park. Jerome has been in hot form, while Campbell has proven to be quite the signing. Meaty challenges and powerful blocks are exactly what we have been lacking, and Campbell must make up for it yet again.
Arshavin vs. Carr
Arshavin is rather off-colour, and finding some of that electric pace would be highly beneficial in this match. Carr is more of a stand-off defender, and if anyone has the technique to exploit this, it must be Arshavin.
Prediction
Birmingham have been rather decent of late, despite a 2-2 draw against Everton and a 3-1 loss against Wigan in their last two matches. They also have to play Blackburn in midweek, so perhaps they will be rusty in time for the Arsenal match. This match could be the most important match of the season, and once again Arsenal should deliver even through a scrappy late win...
Birmingham 1-2 Arsenal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for that Urakanine, I reckon Edaurdo will come off the bench and score the winner....................
My apologies I missed posting the monthly results of Player of the Month for Feb, as I have started a new job and have been really busy........................
Well the runaway winner was Vermaelen {47%}...........Big shame he is missing this weekend after his appeal was turned down by the FA, who missed an opportunity to redeem their image, but as usual they lacked a back bone...........
I think the partnership of Campbell and Song will do the job and I would like to see Diaby Cesc and Nasri in the middle.........
Anyway leave any Arsenal thoughts about the Match against Birmingham, tel us what would your line up be?

gutted, should have buried them, diaby scored a perfectly good goal, then we missed 2 chances to score a second after nasri's goal then we concede a fluke equaliser with no time left...............

Its been such an up and down season but todays result was painful.I would like to think we can come back again but to be honest we will probably finish 3rd.We just need to buy a goalkeeper, surely we can spend 10 million on one.?

yeah very painful, if we beat wolves next week we gain ground on either/or of chelsea united, its hard to say what the best result would be right now.........
if we had won yesterday a draw between them would have suited..........but now I am hoping for a chelsea win...............

Anybody can explain me why Diaby's goal was not allowed ? Why Fabregas did not win a penalty at the death ? He was clearly fouled . To me it was a clear penalty . Was the guy who injured Cesc did not even get a yellow card ?
