Everton Match Thoughts / Ratings, Arshavin wasted, Disgraceful Peter Walton should be sacked, Fair Result...
G4L_Harry (10 January 2010)
Well the Arsenal pulled out all the stops to get this fixture played as most of the premier fell foul of the weather, unfortunately the hard effort of the club staff wasnt mirrored by some of the players as a disjointed team effort, struggled to get going as Everton got completely stuck into us.............
Not one to complain about strong challenges and personally I enjoy a fiesty contest, my issue there is the lack of consistency from various refs.......Some of those challenges yesterday would have got yellows from other refs, look at the penalty given against Silvestre when we played Hull......
I thought Nevilles Challenge on Denilson was OTT and should have been a penalty, surely?, as he jumped up and through him completely missing the ball, the challenge was probably the pre cursor to what happended to denilson later in the match...............
When without anybody on him and no challenge young Denilson slumped over and let go of possession, which saw the Referee wave play on??????????, what the hell is he on?????? he was 5 yards from Denilson and saw him collapse and he waves play on????? it could have been really serious and time could have made a massive difference in his recovery, absolutely disgraceful, I cannot believe not more has been made of this? Personally I would sack him...............
Overall I think it was a fair result, neither team deserve to win, certainly not Everton irrespective of what MoTD said, definitely not us.
Everton started very bright, pushing on, pressing and denying space, strong in the challenge and uncomprimising. As a team we were flakey at best, you could see them scoring first, the desire to get their pride back after that thrashing at theirs on the opening day was on show........
Once they scored we upped our efforts and a deflected Denilson drive had Howard wrong footed........
In the 2nd half we pressed on and played better, passes started to hit the right players, but as we push on, we left ourselves open for the counter attack, which Pienaar took advantage of and was left one on one with the smallest keeper in the premiership as he deftly chipped him for 2-1 with little over ten mins to go..........
But credit to the lads they dug in and really pushed on, as diaby drove into the box as we went into 5minutes of injury time he pushed the ball left into Rosicky's path and another deflected shot flew past Howard into the net........2-2, I just hope that Tomas can stay fit, he can be the difference. Must admit I was surprised that only there was only 5 mins of time added on, Fergie would have been furious..............
Ratings:
Almunia. 5
Although he made a great save at 1-2 when Vaughan ran through as the ref waved play on when denilson was down. He flaps at crosses, looks shot to pieces and has no aura.........
Sagna. 7
Thought he did ok, consistent perfomer who never gives in. Got forward when he could..........
vermaelen. 7
Was worried when he got injured in the first half, played well, consistent like Sagna, got forward in the 2nd, but there again thats why we got caught out, but had song played he would dropped in......
Gallas. 7
Has had a good season alround and went looking for a goal when we needed one, doesnt let us down.
Traore. 6
Going forward he is ok, but his positional sense was lacking yesterday against Donovan and Saha who kept cathcing him out.........
Denilson. 6.5
Continually out muscled by Evertons strong tactics, this unsettled him a bit........ Should have got a penalty ....Scored another goal, albeit a deflected one....
Diaby. 7
Thought he had a good game and tried hard, but not as influential as in the last few games, wasnt in the game in the first 30mins.........Once he got going he was much better, strong 2nd half but can do more as proven lately..
Ramsey. 6
I feel for Aaron, he was weighed down by responsibility, he needs the more experienced players to perform around him, cannot run a game on his own at this stage....
Nasri. 7
I thought Samir was our best player, dropping back to get the ball and try and dictate play.......Involved throughout and one of those who did get stuck in......
Arshavin. 6
Completely wasted.........The first real ball he got where he wanted was when Vela released him down the left, he tore past Neill and into the area, this is what makes him a dangerous player......Watching a rerun on TV you can see how often he was in good positions and the ball didnt come...Got to get him involved more, one of the best players in world..............
Eduardo. 6
Slightly better, but still lacking power to get past players, needs a strong player to play off...............
Subs:
Rosicky. 7 Poor pass gave the ball for their break to score the 2nd, but the defence should have covered better.......Was lively and inventive.....Need him to stay fit, great equaliser courtesy of a deflection, Should have come on at Half time........
Vela. 6
Little time, but tried, on the same wavelength as Arshavin........Great ball..........
Merida. 6
Little time to show anything..............
Manager:
Wenger 6.
Not a great balance in midfield, thought too much was asked of Ramsey, slow to change things round when it was obvious Everton were bossing the game early doors...... And what do you see in Almunia???????
In the end it was a point gained as we nearly threw it away, conceding a late goal, but a draw was a fair result, maybe Wenger will realise that we do need some fresh blood in, just to make sure that these injuries dont cost us..............
Also Best wishes to Denilson, hope its not too bad an injury............
Were you there as well, just how cold was it? I was frozen, but I thought the atmosphere was quite upbeat throughout, leave your thoughts below on the weather, the match, the ref and what your ratings were............
Dont forget to vote in our Player of the Month for December, voting finishes tomorrow.........Diaby and Song are tied currently........

Wenger needs to invest now while the window is open still, only Nasri takes any credit today. I think Wenger needed to get his hair dryer out at half time. Really poor first half and only slightly better in the 2nd half. I agree with you that arshavin is currently wasted in his current role. Is fabregas back next week, lets hope so, we missed him today.

5??? I wouldn't give Almunia a 1. The guy is terrible, has been terrible for 2 seasons, and is one of the major reasons we haven't won a trophy with him - he simply doesn't win games. Cannot think of a single game and say that Almunia single-handedly won us the points the way we have done in the past with Lehmann and Seaman. If Almunia was an outfield player he'd be Stepanovs.

And Jackyboy its hard to disagree, overall, i would drop him without doubt, his save from Vaughan got him an extra point, else he would have got a four......
To give less than that he would have to be the cause of a defeat, he wasnt the only one underperforming, lets be honest...........
But agreed he isnt good enough as a no1 .............

Wenger gave the wrong tactic: always through the center. And the offensive players didn't move up when in posession. As Everton stayed in its half this resulted in 3 Gunners attacking through the middle against at least 7 Toffees. Only when we came over the wings and passed in the center during the last 20min we created chances. The 70 min before, Ramsey stood wide free on the right and never got the ball. Had we played over the wings from minute 1 we would have easily won, as individually the Gunners were much better.

lets c hw fabianski performs against stoke away. thats a tough place to go on a cold dark day and its up north....our achiles heel apparantly. we all know how much almunia struggles 2 claim high balls, last yr and this yr against stoke he was terrible looked v.nervous. bt fabianski looks v.gd. fab loves claiming corners and set pieces and is very authorative so i cant w8 2 c hw he deals with delaps throws. he seems to have cut errors out of his game this season and looks desperate to play. also v.gd with his feet and distribution too. highly motivated surely wengers considern fab seriously atm

dont bbelieve a word motd said. completely forgot to mention that we dominated the 2nd half and didnt mention the character in the squad to come 4rm 2-1 down in injury time against a team that was v.gd on the day. if it was chelsea u can bet ur life hanson says thats y theyl be champions coz they grind out results when they nt playing gd
