Fans View: Liverpool Preview
G4L_Harry (19 April 2009)
G4L Forumite: "Urakanine" Previews in his own quirky style the upcoming game on tuesday against Liverpool:
Over to you Urakanine:
After Aston Villa's someone unfortunate 1-1 draw with West Ham ( Thank Tristan, not me. ), Arsenal stay firmly in fourth.
This game is not a must-win after Villa's draw, but after all, I am personally hoping Pool will somehow overtake Man Utd. Unfortunately, it might not be my choice, and Arsenal may be seeking some long-held revenge after Xabi had tackled Fabregas out of the park. ( See Andy Gray: "This is a spiky game")
Some quick stats:
Last meeting:
Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
( van Persie, Keane )
Arsenal last league game: Wigan 1-4 Arsenal ( Mido, Walcott, Silvestre, Arshavin, Song )
Liverpool last league game: Liverpool 4-0 Blackburn ( Torres, Torres, Agger, Ngog )
Men to watch (Arsenal): Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott
After his surprising absence in the first team, it would only be expected that Samir Nasri plays in this game against Liverpool. Theo Walcott will have fond memories of THAT run against Liverpool, across 90 yards of the field before cleverly feeding Adebayor in the 6-yard box for the simple finish.
Theo Walcott has scored 3 in his last 3 games and is in scarily consistent form. His bullet runs should prove a handful for Dossena and his counterpart, Riera.
Nasri on the other hand, will provide enough trickery to gain access on the left flank / central of midfield. Expect stepovers from him.
Also for Emmanuel Adebayor, this is showtime, and he will be looking to get his name on the scoresheet. Watch out for the hitman!
Men to watch (Liverpool): Kuyt and Torres
Kuyt works like a madman and it'll be interesting to see how Kieran Gibbs deals with him. Kuyt may not have pace but has plenty of determination.
Torres has been in good form, but will be wary of Toure's clear threat to him. Toure could just do the job for us.
Note that Steven Gerrard will be out ( Great news! ), things would be much easier for the Gunners. I fully expect Nasri-Arshavin-Fabregas to dominate Lucas-Xabi-Mascherano. Expect dives and Fabregas pointless shots.
Key Battles:
Torres vs. Toure
Torres may be a clinical finisher, but he doesn't have the required speed nor agility to evade the challenge of Toure. Toure has looked the rock of the defence he was years ago, and expect Toure to dominate Torres. It would take something very special to unlock Toure.
Advantage Arsenal
Kuyt vs. Gibbs
Kuyt is a dangerous player on the ball, capable of long shots and crosses likewise. Gibbs will be like Kuyt, crossing and shooting. Expect tackles to be flying in from all directions. Kuyt just won't have too much in store for Gibbs, and Gibbs will probably play it safe.
Advantage Neutrals.
Fabregas / Nasri vs. Lucas / Mascherano
Fabregas is a playmaker, while Nasri links the loose balls to the strikers. Lucas may be strong but he is careless in tackling. Mascherano has been in disgusting form to say the least having let in countless goals ( See Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool ) in recent weeks.
Advantage Arsenal.
Arshavin vs. Xabi Alonso
Ahh yes, the Russian against the Spaniard. Brings memories doesn't it? Frankly, Xabi might be enough to take on Arshavin, and if Wenger chooses to play Arshavin in the middle, I doubt he can get much of a breakthrough. On the left though, it is a different story.
Advantage Liverpool.
Riera vs. Eboue
The most thrilling battle in the game. Ugly, slow and fat Riera against Cool, fast and thin but dumb Eboue. Riera may have some tricks up his sleeve and Eboue might have funky stepovers, but it would all turn out to be a pointless battle considering how "productive" these two players are. Yawn.
Advantage Boring People.
Benayoun vs Silvestre
Whoa. What a battle. Could be nervy. Benayoun and Silvestre are identical people. Invisible until the very right moment, when he scores / clears / heads / does something amazing. Benayoun will have no problem getting into good postions but Silvestre should still be good enough to handle the pressure.
Advantage Neutrals.
Prediction :
Arsenal may have lost their game against Chelsea but they performed considerably well in any case. Expect goals as either side's defences are far from water-tight. Arsenal to creep in by the odd goal much as I prefer Pool to win the league.
Liverpool 2-3 Arsenal
Well Urakanine seems confident, what do think to his preview and prediction, let him know! and Predict your line up for this big clash.

while i write this i c breaking news on bbc that ade and rvp are out of 2moros game i doubt they would have played if they were fit anyway 2bh. ade has a hamstring injury and rvp has a groin injury which is v.worrying considering we have a big game against united nxt week too! however ed and sagna are both fit.
i think wenger will save eduardo 4 boro so heres my predicted lineup.
rafa is very clever he will tell torres to play off the shit and useless silvestre and not toure. gibbs dealt very well with anelka and kalou so i dont c kuyt being a problem

Your probably right Cesc4, and maybe reference eduardo also. Agreed about gibbs as well, thought he was our best player at wembley.
The line up looks good as well, an element of balance which is needed and what was lacking on saturday.
I would be happy with a draw right now. 2-2.

I'm affraid chaps we will lose tonight 2 -1.They will be feeling sorry for them selves after the semi final defeat and generally speaking it will take a couple of games to get that out of their system.Hopefully i'll be wrong.

Honestly i dont know what AW will come up with today...
We cant be sure of winning, Lets be realistic a draw will be better for us because i dont want to imagine us loosing. It will bring down the morale of the players..

I'd take a draw. 2-2 i have feeling for especially as gerrard aint playing.
All depends on the team put out and whether it has true balance.

Song has been our best player this season,he has developed into an outstanding defensive midfield player.

Not sure Song has been our best player.
And with regard to Sylvestre, please remember he has been out for some time and has had to come back and play 3 games a week. Torres has given John Terry and Vidic torrid times this season. Should Chelsea and Man Utd get rid of them also? He is our 4th choice CB and was always a player bought as cover, not to play every week. Give the guy a break.
